Online Mental Health Support in India: Where to Start (2026)

There is a kind of tired that sleep doesn't fix. If you are reading this late at night with a search bar open and no idea where to begin, start here. This page is a map, not a diagnosis.
A quick note first: this is general information, not medical advice. If you or someone near you is in immediate danger, call 112, India's national emergency number.

Free help you can reach today
Tele-MANAS is a Government of India tele-mental-health service. It is free and runs 24x7. You can call 14416 or 1800-891-4416, and the service is offered in around 20 languages. Counsellors listen, offer support and can refer you onwards if you need more than a conversation. There is also a Tele-MANAS Citizen App on Google Play.
How to choose an online therapist
Ask what they are qualified and registered as. For example, a clinical psychologist registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India, or a psychiatrist, who is a doctor and can prescribe medication.
Ask what the first session is for. A good first session is about fit and goals, not a quick fix.
Read the privacy and fee terms before you pay for a package of sessions.
Trust your gut. If you don't feel heard after two or three sessions, it is completely fine to try someone else.
What online counselling is good for, and what it is not
Video or phone counselling can work well for stress, low mood, anxiety and big life changes, and it saves the travel and the waiting room. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, or you are in crisis, please contact emergency services or a doctor in person instead of relying on an app.

Reaching out is not weakness. Save the number today. That is enough for now.
