Great Indian Festival 2026 Starts Thursday: Read the Discounts Before You Spend a Rupee

Summary: The Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026 begins on Thursday, October 8. The M.R.P. listed is a reference point rather than an actual price you would pay, so evaluate each deal based on the final price, the number of ratings, and the percentage of one-star reviews. Four items to consider, along with their baseline prices as of October 5, are: the Atomberg Renesa Enzel ceiling fan (₹3,849), Borosil Klip N Store glass containers (₹555), Crompton Galaxy USB fairy lights (₹129), and the GM 3060 extension board (₹459).

Everything below comes from Amazon.in listings, ratings and reviews as read on 5 October 2026. Prices move, especially during a sale.

Around eleven at night, the day before a big sale, a sensible person starts behaving strangely. The cart fills up. A "maybe" becomes a "why not". Somewhere around the fourteenth open tab, you stop asking whether you need the thing and start asking whether the price will ever be this low again.

Amazon's Great Indian Festival 2026 begins on Thursday, 8 October. Both Outlook Business and Fone Arena report that date, along with a 10% instant discount on SBI cards and up to 10% extra for Prime members. That's the sale. Here's the part that doesn't fit on a banner.

The MRP is not a price

Start with the cheapest item on today's list: a 10-metre string of fairy lights from Crompton, ₹129 on Amazon.in right now. Its listed M.R.P. is ₹700. On paper that's a discount of roughly 82%, and it would be easy to feel clever about it. But nobody was ever going to pay ₹700 for it. The M.R.P. is a number printed for comparison, not a price anyone pays. The better question is smaller: is ₹129 fair for what this is, and do people who bought it still like it months later?

Three checks before a deal earns a place in your cart. First, how many people rated it. A 4.6 from forty ratings tells you less than a 4.2 from ten thousand. Second, how many of those ratings are one star; click the rating on any product page and the breakdown is right there. Third, what the three-star reviews say, because that's where people calmly explain what annoyed them. Some listings also carry a "Price history" link, which is worth a glance for anything expensive. That's the whole method: a way to slow your thumb down.

When Amazon reported its 2025 festival results, it said festive lights and décor spiked 500%, and that made-in-India home and kitchen brands such as Atomberg, Borosil and Pexpo grew 38% year on year (Amazon India). A decent clue to where the crowd heads first.

Four things worth shortlisting before Thursday

Prices, ratings and counts below were read on Amazon.in on 5 October 2026. They are not sale prices, so treat them as your baseline: if Thursday's price isn't lower than this, nothing has been won.

1. A BLDC ceiling fan: the big-ticket one

The Atomberg Renesa Enzel 1200mm BLDC ceiling fan is ₹3,849 against an M.R.P. of ₹5,110. It holds 4.1 stars from 49,170 ratings, carries Amazon's Choice tag, and the listing says 1K+ were bought in the past month. The listing describes a 5-star BEE rating, a remote, and 35W at top speed; those are the maker's figures, not ours.

Now the rougher numbers: 58% of ratings are five-star, but 10% are one-star, which is one in ten. One verified buyer who gave three stars says the airflow noise at speeds 4 and 5 felt close to their old fan, so "low noise" may be most true at lower speeds. Another, at four stars, liked the airflow in a bedroom but found the plastic feels cheap and doubts it will last six years. Installation is sold as a separate service on the listing, so check the charge at checkout. For a purchase this size, the price-history glance is the one worth making.

Cozy and festive ambiance fills the room, with warm string lights adorning the window and a comfortable couch inviting relaxation, perfect for the holiday season.

2. Glass storage containers: the small everyday upgrade

The Borosil Klip N Store square glass container set (pack of 2) is ₹555 against an M.R.P. of ₹750, with 4.6 stars from 421 ratings. Seventy-six percent of ratings are five-star and only 3% are one-star, and the listing says 900+ were bought in the past month. The listing calls it borosilicate glass, microwave and dishwasher safe, with leak-proof, BPA-free lids.

The caveats: 421 ratings is a smaller sample than the other three picks here, and one reviewer reported that the lid lock broke twice. Also note that on a sibling Borosil set, the round set of three, the listing says the lid is not microwavable. Unless the listing for your exact set says otherwise, reheat with the lid off.

3. Fairy lights for the festive corner

The Crompton Galaxy 10 m, 100 LED warm white copper string lights are ₹129 against that ₹700 M.R.P., with 4.2 stars from 10,713 ratings. Fifty-nine percent are five-star and 7% are one-star; the listing says 3K+ were bought in the past month.

These run on 5V USB, so you'll need a phone-charger adapter or a power bank; one reviewer flagged exactly that. Durability reads as a mixed bag, which is about what ₹129 buys: one reviewer says they've used theirs continuously for 20 months, another says theirs stopped working after about nine months of continuous use. A third notes the wire arrives tangled. Plan to unwind them gently, not in a rush at 6 pm on Diwali evening.

4. An extension board that's up to the festive load

The GM 3060 four-socket extension board with master switch is ₹459 against an M.R.P. of ₹825. It has 4.4 stars from 68,338 ratings, with 65% five-star and 3% one-star, and the listing says 5K+ were bought in the past month. The listing mentions safety shutters, a master switch with indicator, thermal trip and built-in surge protection; those are the manufacturer's claims and we haven't tested them.

Small things to check: the listing gives the cable as 2 m in the title but 1.8 m in one bullet, so measure the distance to your socket first. One reviewer found the sockets tightly spaced, so chunky adapters may not sit side by side. And it's rated 10A, which suits lights, chargers and small gadgets, not heaters or other heavy appliances.

What to leave out of the cart

Anything you only want because it's 70% off. And anything that's high on the results page purely because it's up there: on the day these were checked, several of the top fairy-light and extension-board results carried a small "Sponsored" tag, so position isn't the same as quality.

Here's a simpler plan. Before Thursday, write down the two or three things you genuinely meant to buy this year and the price you'd be happy to pay for each. If the sale price is at or under your number, buy it. If it isn't, you've lost nothing at all.

Quick answers

When does the Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026 start?

It begins on Thursday, 8 October 2026, according to Outlook Business and Fone Arena. Reported offers include a 10% instant discount on SBI cards and up to 10% extra for Prime members. Confirm the terms on Amazon before you pay.

Is the M.R.P. the real price?

No. The M.R.P. is a reference figure printed for comparison. What matters is the price you actually pay compared with what the same product has cost recently, which some listings show through a "Price history" link.

Are the prices in this guide sale prices?

No. They were read on Amazon.in on 5 October 2026, before the sale, so they work as a baseline. If a sale price isn't lower than the baseline, there's no saving to chase.

Which of these four is worth the closest look?

The ceiling fan, because it's the biggest spend. Compare the sale price with the ₹3,849 baseline for the Atomberg Renesa Enzel, and read the three-star reviews on noise and build quality before deciding.

Can she scroll past a 70%-off banner at 11 pm and still ask what she actually came for? Probably. Most of us just need a short list to hold on to.
