Hi, if you know me well or have read my previous articles, you are familiar with how beauty conscious I am. I care for my body, skin, and overall health and also for my lovely readers, which is, of course, you. So I bring you this nice post on vitamin C and its benefits.

What happens if we are deficient in vitamin C?

Before I get to the good part and tell you all about the benefits of vitamin C, first I will tell you what will happen to your body if it lacks vitamin C in a long and detailed manner. I know you are mentally throwing rotten tomatoes at me, but bear with me, people, this section is also important, and I promise it will be over soon. Besides, all good things come to those who wait.

  • Firstly, you will feel tired, weak, and irritable, which is not good if you are a working professional like me.

  • It can also lead to one another deficiency known as scurvy, which causes bruising, gum, dental problems, dry hair, skin, and anaemia, which is again not good for your beauty and lifestyle, especially if you are a woman like me. Oh, I am already scared. Please do take care, people.

How do we become vitamin C deficient?

Well, I promise, just one last thing before you get to the good part. So, now you know the scary part about what happens when you lack vitamin C, but I wonder how it happens? So lets you and me find out together.

  • The first reason is indeed when you don’t eat fruits and vegetables. See, that’s what happens when you don’t listen to your elders as children. So kids, please eat your fruits and vegetables, especially oranges.

  • Cooking food also destroys some of the vitamin C. That’s why animals never lack vitamin C.

  • Another reason is breastfeeding and pregnancy. Only women can relate.

  • I can’t blame you if you have a high fever or inflammation-causing disorder.

  • Hyperthyroidism. (I don’t know it either)

  • Don’t let diarrhoea last long.

  • Stay away from surgery and burns as much as you can.

  • I will give it to you straight. Smoking causes a lack of the essential vitamin C by 30%; it doesn’t say the warning on the pack for nothing, so the bottom line is, don’t smoke.

Benefits of vitamin C

Yay, we have finally reached our destination. Now, after all the boring but necessary stuff, here’s the good and uplifting part of the article. With that being said, here are the Skincare and other benefits of everyone’s favourite vitamin C.

  • Vitamin C is important for the growth, development, and repair of all the tissues in your body, you didn’t know it already, did you?

  • Now I will throw many scientific terms at you that I didn’t even know a penny’s worth. Vitamin C is involved in multiple body functions such as the formation of collagen, absorption of iron, and proper functioning of your immune system.

  • If you want to have strong teeth, cartilage, and bones, consume plenty of vitamin C with your daily dose of fruits and vegetables. My favourite is oranges.

  • If you get injured often, you need a high dose of vitamin C in your daily food since it is your friend to heal wounds.

  • Vitamin C also shields you from free radicals (look it up on the internet) and harmful pollutants like cigarette smoke.

  • It keeps your skin youthful and plump, prevents skin ageing, wrinkles, and fine lines, gives you even skin tone and bright complexion, and no more dark spots.
